The team in charge of student activities at the CFLC is devoted to organizing activities with students as the first consideration, while striving for innovation. All of the activities organized by this team help to create an energetic, loving, and friendly CFLC. In developing the students to take part in Party and Youth League activities, we maintain the principle of helping students and encouraging their innovative ideas. The Red Series, a program organized by the university’s Party branch, includes a series of instructive activities for students. Two of those activities, such as “My Red Birthday” and “Red Supervisors”, received praises from the Party branches of other colleges in Fujian Province. 2013 marked the first time the Party branch at Xiamen University had ever opened its door to freshman students, showing great progress in the basic construction of Party organizations. We have improved the internal architecture of the Youth League system in order to expand the scope of the League’s work―for example, we set up a temporary Youth League branch among students studying abroad. We have also adhered to standardized, democratic ideals in the management of student activities, as evidenced by our work on the Youth League Day activities. In March 2014, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China featured a report in the “News Release” column of their website describing our college’s creative efforts toward Party-building. The report was entitled “Red education offered by basic Party organizations at Xiamen University welcome by young students”. With these qualities of the CFLC, we have been able to promote on-campus cultural activities while at the same time encouraging academic achievement. We have organized and hosted a series of competitions and contests, including the Cross-strait Interpreting Competition, the Foreign Language Karaoke Contest, the Simulative International Academic Conference Contest, the English Dubbing Competition, the Xiamen University Qualification Trials for the Star of Outlook English Talent Competition, the Xiamen University Qualification Trials for the “FLTRP Cup” English Public Speaking Contest, the Xiamen University Qualification Trials for the “FLTRP/Dangdang.com Cup” English Debate Competition, and the Xiamen University Qualification Trials for the “FLTRP Cup” English Writing Contest. The CFLC also hosts unique academic activities in an effort to create a platform for students’ various talents, including the Graduate Academic Seminar, the “Light of Nangying” Academic Salon, the Interpreting Talents Salon, Deans’ Coffee Time and the “Global French Culture and Language Festival”. We have also organized a variety of recreational and sports activities so as to promote students’ mental and physical fitness as well as enhance their overall well-being. For the last five years, both the professional skills of our students, and their achievements in sports competitions and recreational activities have improved markedly. The College women’s volleyball team has won the University League championship for four successive years, we have won the first prize both in the broadcast gymnastics competition and the cheerleading competition for five consecutive years, and our college was given the Ethics Award at the university track and field sports meet. What’s more, our college’s dancing team, chorus, and the etiquette team have claimed many awards in various competitions and performances. They have undoubtedly become remarkable representatives not only of the university, but also of Xiamen and Fujian Province. Regarding volunteer activities, students from our college have made full use of their advantage in languages and done magnificent work in the Beijing Olympics, the Shanghai Expo, the Asian Games in Guangzhou, the Universiade in Shenzhen, the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, and other international events. Furthermore, they also take an active role in serving the region, and have received high praise for their volunteer work in the China International Fair for Investment and Trade, the International Chorus Festival, the Xiamen International Marathon, Xiamen World Ocean Week, the China-Japan University Presidents Forum, the Bordeaux Wine party, Xiamen University Malta Week, and other activities. What’s more, in a campaign that focuses on disadvantaged social groups, two programs from our college―aid education for kids of migrant workers at Qianpu Elementary School and the star village caring for autistic children―have won several top prizes in project organization, and have received funds from a number of organizations and departments. In recent years, the college has encouraged students from all programs (English, Japanese, French, German, and Russian) to participate in social activities. Our students have played a major role in the realization of “China Dream”; they offer educational aid in the countryside, intern with various companies, and participate in a variety of other programs. Their performance is always of the highest level. Several teams from our college have been awarded “Excellent University Implementation Team”. Key teams including the “Light of Nangying” Summer Vacation Implementation Team and the “Phoenix Flower” Voluntary Service Team have been honored as “Excellent Provincial Implementation Teams”, and several hundred students have been honored as “Outstanding Individuals in Xiamen University Summer Vacation Social Implementation”. We believe in providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for living and learning, and in an effort to live up to the principle of “filling everyone’s heart with sunshine”, we have organized a number of social events for our students, including “psychological drama”, “ice-breaking team building exercise”, “psychological salon”, “May 25th quality psychological training month” and “considerate group mails”. Through these activities, we have enhanced students’ psychological fitness, raised their awareness of professional help, and cultivated their love for both themselves and others. We have given priority to guiding students in their job hunting. In 2013, our Employment Promoting Center organized six events, including “how to pass the civil servants exam”, “face your career life head on”, “new motivation for seeking employment”, “advice from our graduates”, “help from teachers” and “how to study abroad”. These events have greatly helped increase employment among graduates through giving them an edge in market competition. Three of these events have been distinguished as “important university-wide employment promoting activities”.
